Why My Dog is the Best

Some ideas you only get when walking the earth. No podcast in your ear or social media in your face. Just walking around, alone with the thoughts rambling around in your skull. I've often found that during walks I get ideas.  Back in 2021, walking my dog at the time, Sunshine, was always a highlight. Sunshine loved seeing the neighborhood and I liked the excuse to get out and see it with her. During one of our trips out it was getting a bit late, a bit darker. I noticed one of the many similar apartments was entirely empty but the way the glass door was in the dark, it looked wide open. It was an eerie image that stuck with me long after our walk, What if there was someone, or something, waiting for me inside there? Just hoping I or some other sap would fall into their web? I developed the giant spider idea not longer because giant spiders are terrifying. I will not argue this point. You all know I'm right. Sadly Sunshine passed away that same year and while I'd only been ...

The Last Old Midnight Spookshow

Some Stories take longer to tell than others. It was over 15 years ago, my first day of college. I had a lot of time between classes so I went to the library to relax. Left alone with my thoughts, the idea suddenly hit me. I felt inspired to jot down several titles for possible short horror stories in the vein of Creepshow/Tales from the Crypt. One of the first titles I write down: The Last Old Midnight Spookshow. Now the idea was different then, much simpler in scope. But the core of it, a failing theater doing one final show late at night, was always there.  I held onto those early story ideas for years, reiterating on them every now and then. It was only last year I finally felt confident enough to try and take a crack at the idea again. This time I wanted to go with something a bit more anthology-like in it's structure. I think doing this is what lead me to wanting to do something similar with this year's Bone Boy Billy Halloween special. It was really fun coming up with...

One-Page Horror Comics, 2024-2025

Welcome back for more fear!  A couple years back I wanted to start drawing horror comics. Instead of just dreaming about making them with some much more talented artist, I wanted to get my dang ideas out of my head. Now, I'd had an inkling to do this years before, but ran into some mental blocks that got in the way. In late 2024 I was determined to start drawing my own horror comics as I had been working on Bone Boy Billy steadily for about a year at that point. I felt ready to try something new. But I wasn't feeling comfortable to start running without crawling a bit first. It was there I got the idea to do one page horror comics instead of multi-paged stories. It was something I was more used to with my time working on Billy. Even pages that are part of a larger story still tell a little story in their one part. Plus it was a challenge to see if I could tell a story in so short a form. Here's my first real attempt and it's rough as hell. The composition is all mixed...

Welcome, kiddies!

You hear a strange sound from afar, like nothing you've encountered before. The air tastes strange. After some time, you realize the color of the sky is wrong. You're trapped in a nightmare. A Living Nightmare of your own hellish making!  And if you're the lucky bastard reading about said nightmare instead of living it, congrats! Welcome one and all to the Archive of the Living Nightmare. After sharing some of my spooky tales around the world wide web (still haven't seen any cool spiders, btw) I decided there needed to be a place to archive our terror tale properly. Day of the Living Nightmare is my anthology horror series documenting scary stories you can tell in the dark or light. Starring the fetid fiend himself, the Burnt Bookkeeper! Host of horrors for your scarevening.  Here we'll be posting everything that's came before the last couple of years, some behind the scenes stuff from time to time and this year's current horror story we'll be posting ...
